JOJO Trying Not To Think About It Album Review

From the very start JOJO begins with an intro song, which I do find more artists doing these days especially Ariana Grande. I think it is a good way to get the audience accustomed to what they are about to hear. From this intro I will say it is not what I was expecting at all, definitely know this is about to be an R&B style album nothing similar to Mad Love. I noticed from the track-list this album includes three interlude songs which is quite a few for an album with only 12 songs. 1/4 of the album in total is just interludes. So far I am finding all the songs to be pretty slow, which isn’t a bad thing it’s just not the vibe I usually go for when I choose music to listen to. Her beautiful, bad-ass vocals that she is most known for, are definitely still there. However, I wouldn’t say that this album so far would be one of the top releases that I’ve heard recently. The songs aren’t super upbeat but I know this is a personal album she has written about personal struggles, so I wasn’t expecting pop hits.
I appreciate that she has written something so vulnerable and has the confidence to share it publicly with the world, that definitely shows her bravery. This album is about confidence and vulnerability and I think by listening to it, her fan base will really resonate with her. Also similarly to my past review of Alessia Cara, JOJO has opted for a release with no collaborations. It is just her own story.
Overall for me this release would be about 7/10, it’s not my favorite of hers but its a bold move for JOJO!
